I grew up surrounded by creativity: castles made from paper
towel tubes; poetry; singing; opera; crocheting; knitting; dancing; guitar
playing and photography. I have been a photographer since I was
about ten years old. An old Polaroid
camera fell on my head when I opened a cupboard. After I was
over being angry at it - I put it to good use and started making
photographs.
With my images I want to transport the viewer to other places
and times: introduce them to the tranquility
of a Cambodian temple, the aqua slice of a wave or the anguish
of a bronc rider. Sometimes there are big
stories in small moments and I hope the presentation of those
moments provides the viewer with a seed for
their imagination.
Taking the "pretty" photo isn't always what I do. I have been
shocked and humbled by some of the places
and things I've seen. Maybe some of my photos will give people
a way to see a tiny piece of the
world, perhaps, even the world right outside their door.
Monday Magazine wrote:
"Anyone can take a snapshot, but it takes a great photographer to turn ordinary moments into memorable works of art. However, that's the kind of magic Victoria photographer Charlotte Kinzie works with her lens, so it's no wonder readers chose her as their favourite photog. From wacky and touching wedding pics to curious landscapes and provocative portraits, Kinzie's work goes beyond the ordinary and into a creative realm that is imaginative and revealing."
