About Activities and Courses
Activities are endeavours organized and carried out by the participants themselves. Often a group will have a volunteer leader who has expertise in the activity. Activity tickets apply.
Fitness Classes are run by experienced instructors. Yellow tickets apply.
One ticket is required for each session. Tickets may be purchased from the front desk. Activity tickets are sold in packets of 10 for $30.00. Blue tickets may be purchased individually for $3.50 each. Yellow tickets are sold in packets of 10 for $60.00. See also FEES.
Create Your Own
Goward House is always looking for new ideas on what to offer. If you would like to see something offered that we presently do not, please talk to our administrator. Warning: you might be asked to help organize it or even teach it!
ACTIVITY: Both Elizabeth and Owen Goward were accomplished artists and art is a popular activity at Goward House. Many of our artists started painting after retirement. We have four active art groups.

ACTIVITY: Members play pool, snooker and billiards. New players are welcome to come and join in. Table time may be reserved. Availability varies so please check with the front desk.

ACTIVITY: This group meets at 1:30pm on the third Tuesday of each month in the Goward House Theatre (lower floor). New members are always welcome to join to fun and chatter. Join anytime!
ACTIVITY: Bridge is the most popular activitiy by far at Goward House. In addition to the groups listed below, there are several groups of friends who play regularly.
Whether Bridge is your passion or you have never played before, there is a place for you in one or more of our groups. Please inquire.

There are also private tables for two and four persons. As a member you may prefer to set up your own table or tables. A quiet spot can almost always be found for you to play. Your friends may come once as guests, after which they must become members.
COURSE: There are several exercise classes for you to choose from. All exercises may be done while sitting. These classes promote full functional fitness, including balance, strength, flexibility, and core muscles, in a relaxed and fun environment. Good for all!
Exercise Classes are led by fitness experts who make their living from the Course fees. The fees, therefore, are higher than Activity fees. Yellow tickets apply.
Strength & Balance with Manda Ghag

This class consists of stretching, exercising with balls and hand weights (supplied) and repetitive moves to sharpen the mind. Much of this is done while seated and is followed by a brief relaxing session of quiet meditation. Members of all age groups find these fitness classes invigorating and fun.
Strength and Balance offers a variety of benefits including strength and flexibility. Re-discover your fluidity of motion and a more relaxed and expressive body, using bands, hand weights and balls.

Gentle Yoga with Andrea Baudic

This class accommodates all levels of ability. You will leave the class feeling stretched, centred and re-energized. This yoga class is for everyone.
ACTIVITY: Among our members we have two French language interest groups. Self-organized and self-directed, each group meets weekly at Goward House to study, read and converse in French, at an intermediate to advanced level.

Goward House Singers
ACTIVITY: About 25 people meet to sing songs that appeal to Seniors. They like to sing in harmony and perform throughout the year at Seniors’ Residences and Nursing Homes. New members are always welcome.

ACTIVITY: Come and touch, tap, hook, scuff and stomp your way to fitness in 2016. Line dancing is a fun way to exercise as well as meet others who share the enjoyment of moving to music. First-timer? No problem. Come and give it a try. First class is free.

Mah Jong Club
ACTIVITY: The Mah Jong group has been active for over 10 years and currently has about a dozen members. New members are welcome to give Mah Jong a try.
If you can play gin rummy, you can play mah jong – and leave the counting to experienced players. You don’t play with partners, so no recriminations. We have tea at half-time and lively conversations (also during the heading). Half the time we don’t add up the score – – it’s the joy of playing that counts!
ACTIVITY: This is an informal gathering to share ideas about the economy, investing and taxation along with coffee and lots of fun. Financial Advisor Pam Katunar hosts the group which is open to the public and free of charge.

Paper Quilling NEW PROGRAM
ACTIVITY: Discover the deep satisfaction of quilling. Create quilled cards for friends and family that will undoubtedly be framed and cherished by the recipients. Learn the art and craft of creating your own designs with curled strips of coloured paper. But BEWARE: quilling can be addictive!

ACTIVITY: Learn to speak Spanish in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Emphasis will be on using the language in practical situations. Tapes of native speakers will be used to supplement the classroom instruction. This course can be very useful to travelers.

ACTIVITY: Are you looking at writing your memoirs, travel journals or magazine articles? If so, this might be the group for you. Write On! participants meet regularly on the 3rd Monday of each month. The facilitator Mary Brackenbury is a published writer and retired teacher.
