RANJEET DHALIWAL

Ranjeet shares the surprises that cross her path through her art. Her chosen media are textiles and photography. She can be found more-often-than-not meandering outside the lines, preferring to let the improvisational spirit guide her hands, creating en route, with a steady belief that her pieces will work out.

Ranjeet’s art is diverse and vibrant. Through the imagining, design, and execution of each artwork, she celebrates the joie de vivre of her muse: her daughter, Amrit Dani. For her fibre pieces, she uses the appropriate material to create visual interest, inviting the viewer to engage further. Such techniques allow the play between texture, colour, and movement, to be heightened or muted, as desired.

Ranjeet’s fibre art includes sewing, macramé, crocheting, and weaving. She draws inspiration from the world around her. The fabric hangings incorporate both traditional and art quilting techniques including: layering, appliqué, embellishment, improv, free-motion, couching, and thread painting. Photography is a way for Ranjeet to journal daily treasures, a way to document what catches her eye and heart. The photos, not digitally manipulated, are printed on Kauai paper.

Ranjeet has participated in both solo and group exhibitions. Her most recent solo show was in March 2024, at the Cedar Hill Art Gallery: Spring into Summer. The show at Goward House is a continuation, featuring familiar and new artwork of backyard beauty captured by Ranjeet. She is a member of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), Fibre Art Network, and the Victoria Quilters’ Guild.
